It was SOOOO Long...

I went to the play last night. Mildred! - a musical adaptation of Mildred Pierce. It was really, really, really long... It was over 3 hours long. The last time I sat through something that long - Kevin Costner was making a hack out of himself...

But, it was good! I even saw ways of cutting it down - even now it's almost more operetta than musical. And the acting talent from my alma mater is actually good. There's this big, ballsy girl playing the big ballsy character who's career I want to follow.

Thanks to Lee Martindale's "professional bad influence", I've been making a lot of my characters more "Human Sized" rather than "super model". If I ever get to adapting some for the screen, I'll want to work with this chick.

And I have to find out, but I think one of the guy leads is a brother to a guy I hung out with in college. Haven't seen or heard from him in years, but the name isn't all *that* common, but I can't bring up a image of his face to say whether or not they're related. I have Mom digging in the TCU global search to find email addresses...

Of course now, I'm totally zonked. Fortunately, so far, my speech class is seriously working on their speeches. I have to grade them, dammit. I brought the laptop. Need to get stuff put in it, but I can do that during the prep time. I actually have to pay attention to them as they give them...

On the other hand, I'm going back to Half Price books on the way home from school to pick up a couple of things I saw last time. Tomorrow I might treat myself to a trip to the really COOL one a half hour away. And I did get 3 fun novels at Barnes & Nobel last night for $7 - hardback! Thank God for the $1 table.

Off to work now...

Coherent Thoughts

Sort of...

First of all, kids came in to my 3rd block class asking to listen to the radio because a building blew up in NYC. Feeling guilty about not letting kids in on history breaking news on 9/11, I at least checked it out. (Still didn't let them listen to the radio!) Fortunately, not all explosions are terrorist attacks - some are just over zealous boiler rooms.

It does make me feel better about checking though...

Second of all more info on Mildred! - sidewinder, it reminded me of Sorrows and Rejoicings, except without John, and with music. It was a "memory" play - a murder investigation - Mildred is telling the story about how she was involved with the dead guy. But the smarmy character - Wally Fay - I kid you not, the kid looked kinda like a reincarnation of Edward G. Robinson - if ole Ed could sing...

Thirdly, I've hit the 60 page mark of my No More Mr. Bad Guy script with a bunch of hand written stuff left to go - and I'm not quite finished hand-writing the script... but if all goes well, I *might* actually finish it this weekend!

Just in time to get the HK research material from sidewinder!

Okay, lunch time.

Chow baby.

Cool...

Yes, I'm procrastinating. Sue me...

Managed to make the big brassy chick from the play totally speechless... This girl is Next Gen Camryn Mannheim - and she's only a college Freshman (I sure thought she was older). She's good...

Richard Allen - the guy responsible for the play - called my comments on his Mildred! "thoughtful and insightful" - been a while since I've been called that!

Well, my work here is done - wish I could say the same about the stuff on the laptop.

30 more min of class then I'm done for the day. Unfortunately, the kids are restless now that they've come back from lunch.
